’sters, clams, and no crabs big enough to keep

Posted on Sunday 18 October 2009

Got back from a very fun and relaxing weekend out at Hood Canal.  Oysters, clams, smelt, and a whole lot of fun.

Miles and I dug for clams.  Very successful harvest; had to bring home about four pounds to add to tonight’s linguine recipe.  In fact, if you’re ever looking for a great meal with crabs, here’s the link….

Really not hard to find the clams right under the surface of the sand.

Then we shucked a lot of oysters… Matt kept having Reese and Marissa eat them raw.

Marissa started picking which ones she wanted shucked next.

Jamie held Piper as practice for her #2 which is one the way.

This was fun; when high tide rolls in there’s all sort of smelt that come by the bulkhead in large schools.  Look closely in that net and you can see just how many can get caught in each swoop.

Marissa’s job was to catch them off the yard and put them in the bucket.   We cooked them up; terrific snack!

Checking the crab pots – caught about 30-40 crab, but all too small.
